BioShock 4 Setting & Time Period Reportedly Leaked

The setting and time period of BioShock 4 have reportedly leaked, and it seems like the game will incorporate a colder environment. As of right now, nothing has been confirmed, but rumors surrounding the highly anticipated game are starting to grow more prevalent. As of right now, no one knows when BioShock 4 will even be revealed, but many are expecting it to release sometime in 2022.

A recent leak shed some light on BioShock 4’s story, suggesting the game will take place in two different cities. One is said to be a thriving city led by a wealthy and successful entrepreneur, while the other is an underground city led by a dictator. It seems the game will infuse themes of classism and echo the political nature of the entire series, but all of these theories are yet to be confirmed. Nonetheless, these details are very general and have left fans craving more specifics.

According to former IGN writer and Sacred Symbols podcast host Colin Moriarty (via Video Games Chronicle), BioShock 4 will take place in a fictional Antarctic city called Borealis in the 1960s. Despite being developed by a new studio, the game will still connect to previous games in the series and release sometime in 2022. Job listings for BioShock 4 suggest it will be open-world, something the series has very loosely dabbled in executing – but never fully embraced.

With multiple locations rumored and a fantastical city set in an icy wonderland, BioShock 4 vcould make for one of the more unique worlds in gaming. BioShock has previously featured an underwater utopia and a cloud-based city, so an arctic city would fit right in with the previous settings. Moriarity also noted that the project is a big secret at Cloud Chamber and that its team understands the game will be compared to BioShock creator Ken Levine’s next game. As of right now, Levine’s next game is a complete and total mystery, but has been in the works since around 2017.

With BioShock 4 expected to release in 2022, an official reveal can probably be expected soon. A previous rumor suggested the game could be revealed in Q1 2022, which would be between this coming January and April. With The Game Awards 2021 just around the corner, it’s possible fans may get a teaser at the awards show, as well. There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding the game – such as its characters, gameplay innovations, plot, and the overall connections to the BioShock universe – so these BioShock 4 leaks are ultimately just the tip of the iceberg.
